TRANSMISSION REPAIR

We can repair and replace all failed transmission parts without touching the high wear parts. This restores the transmission to a "good used” condition. A repair is less costly than a rebuild and good if you don't intend to keep the car for a long period of time

TRANSMISSION REBUILD

Whats the Difference Between Transmission Repair and Transmission Rebuild
What's really different about auto transmissions today is software. They are all controlled by on-board computers instead of the mechanical linkage used in older cars. A specific transmission may be used by several different manufacturers, but they will all have different software. This means that a shift "problem" on one vehicle may be normal on another.

DOMESTIC & FOREIGN CARS & TRUCKS

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

Vehicle's part - automatic transmission in Kirkland, WA
Automatic transmissions are among the most complicated parts of today's vehicles. However, with regularly scheduled maintenance, they can last the life of the car. Common problem areas include:
  • Transmission Fluid - High transmission heat can cause the transmission fluid to break down rapidly. Things like trailer towing, quick starts and stops, mountain driving and wheel spinning on slippery roads are very hard on automatic transmissions.
  • Filters - Short trips and stop-and-go driving can cause a build up of foreign matter in transmission fluid. This may require transmission flushing rather than simple draining and replacing old fluid. In this case filters should be replaced.
  • Gaskets & Seals - Symptoms of seal leakage may include problems with forward or reverse, rough shifting, or loss of some gear ranges.
  • Mechanical: Automatic transmissions can include flywheels, torque converters, transaxles and other parts that can wear from improper use or lack of fluids and may require repair or replacement.
Kirkland Transmission can provide all scheduled transmission maintenance recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, as well as repair or replacement if needed.

MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS

Manual transmissions are less complicated than automatic transmission, but they still require maintenance as the vehicle ages. Here are some of the most common problem areas:

  • Clutch Disc, Flywheel & Pressure Plate - Clutch chatter or slippage may indicate a worn clutch disc or flywheel, damage to the pressure plate assembly, or oil leaking from engine into clutch assembly.
  • Clutch Linkage - Symptoms may include a stiff clutch pedal, slippage or intermittent clutch problems.
  • Throw-Out Bearing - A worn throw-out bearing often causes a whirring or growling sound when the clutch is applied.
  • Transaxle - On front wheel drive vehicles, the transmission and differential are combined into a transaxle. This requires a special lubricant that should be checked at every oil change.
Service technicians at Kirkland Transmission can road test your car and pinpoint the exact problem in your transmission.

ALL WHEEL DRIVES

Todays all wheel drive and on-demand four-wheel drive transmissions are totally computer controlled. These systems measure input from multiple sensors and can be adversely effected by as little as a one inch difference in circumference of a vehicle's tires.

MOTOR HOMES & RVS

Motor homes and RV's often have the same transmissions as the truck frames they are built on. Kirkland Transmission has 30 years of experience working on truck transmissions and knows where the weak links are in each application.

OVERDRIVES

Unlike yesteryear, most overdrives today are built right into the transmissions. One or two extra gears are added to help increase gas mileage at highway driving speeds.
